The Windmill Hill City Farm shop has reopened after lockdown and is stocked full of farm to table produce, covered in Bristol soil. Alongside rows of squash, leeks, apples, herbs and greens is a fridge and freezer full of meat from animals born and raised on the farm itself.
The shop is a social enterprise, which means it is not just focused on profit. Working with local volunteer groups, the cafe and shop buy the food harvested from the farm to sell to customers, giving the groups an income to keep running.
As well as fresh farm produce, the shop is stocked with the best and often organic produce such as Hodmedods pulses, Wogan Coffe, Booja Booja ice-cream and Rawsoap Goats Milk soaps. The on-farm cafe also creates a wealth of preserves and pickles from harvested fruit and veg. Their medlar jam is made from the fruit of the tree that stands by the greenhouse, the pickled cucumbers from the cucumber patch and the lavender is also maintained on-site.
Each purchase you make generates funds to keep the farm and its community services afloat.
