As life continues on, and we all try to adjust to a challenging new normal, here at Bristol Food Union we’re worried about the months that lie ahead.
With the end of furlough, reduction in Universal Credit, plus increases in the cost of food and energy, once again it is the most vulnerable in our society that will struggle hardest this winter.
So we’re bringing Food Boxes Back, with the aim to make and deliver as many Holiday Hampers as possible to Bristol families that need a little extra love this festive season.
We feel that doing good and eating well, don’t have to be separate. Throughout lockdown our ‘Buy One, Give One’ model invited you to buy something delicious for yourself, and pay it forward by donating to someone in need.
We’ve teamed up with our city’s independent food and drink producers to create a range of delicious Bristol Food boxes.
Filled with tempting treats, each item has been handpicked from Bristol’s best independent food producers to bring you a truly festive taste of our city.
Last year many of you bought Bristol Food Boxes as gifts for family or friends, colleagues, clients, or stakeholders. You donated Christmas party bar budgets to families that needed food, and your teams volunteered to pack and deliver hampers. We collapsed into Christmas, exhausted, but satisfied that almost 1,000 families had received a hamper thanks to the incredible generosity of the Bristol public (that’s you!)
We are again asking you to dig deep and ‘give one’ by donating £20.00 to supply holiday provisions to a family in need.
The holidays can be hard, and we hope to help ease the pressure just slightly. Our practical family hampers will include:
- A fruit and veg box
- A whole chicken or chicken pieces for stews and curries (depending on preference)
- A provisions box with basic staples (rice, sugar, pasta, flour etc) plus holiday extras such as mince-pies, and a few luxuries.
We will produce as many provision boxes as donations allow. For every £20.00 we raise, a Bristol family will receive a holiday hamper.
All holiday hampers will be delivered to families in Bristol between 19th and 23rd December, via our community food partners.
